Event Details

In 2008 the Healthier Inside Toolkit was developed by NCB, through DH funding, as a means of encouraging more of a ‘whole system approach’ to supporting young people in secure settings. It sets out 27 health and well being entitlements for children and young people in secure settings, and so brings together key national policies, targets and standards. The toolkit has enabled secure placements to prepare for inspections and performance monitoring and ensure the views and experiences of young people inform service developments

Last December the Childhood Bereavement Network (CBN) also produced a comprehensive briefing, ‘Bereavement in the Secure Setting: Delivering Every Child Matters for bereaved young people in custody’, funded by the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund. This explores how the health of young people in secure settings can be promoted following bereavement.

These seminars draw on the above resources to equip delegates with the knowledge necessary to help meet children and young people’s health and well-being needs.

The morning session will provide relevant information on education, health and well-being issues for children and young people and their views, an overview of the toolkit, a practical case study from a secure setting, time to share and discuss your experiences as well as an opportunity to question the speakers. The afternoon will provide a special focus on the effects of bereavement on young people’s health and well-being and ways of supporting them.
